MOTIONAL
Supporting Emotional Awareness Through Sensory
Play
At Chaigeley School, sensory-based emotional development is
embedded into daily routines to support pupils’ emotional growth and
wellbeing. Activities are designed to help children recognise and
understand their feelings in a safe and supportive environment. These
sessions promote emotional regulation by allowing pupils to explore
touch, sound, and movement in a calm and playful way, while adults
reflect and validate their experiences in the moment.
Through simple moments of
wonder like the tickle of a
feather or the sparkle of a
bubble - we help children find
calm, joy, and connection to
themselves and others.
Building Relationships and Emotional Resilience
Through shared, enjoyable experiences, pupils build stronger
connections with staff and peers. These moments encourage children to
engage, express, and feel safe in their surroundings. The approach
helps develop self-awareness, resilience, and trust, forming an important
part of Chaigeley’s trauma-informed and therapeutic ethos.
